Eric Marcero

Eric Marcero is a Project Manager at Motor City Electric Utilities Co., where he has worked for more than a decade, including the past five years in his current role. Eric manages every aspect of utility and renewable energy projects—from schedules and budgets to materials, manpower, and subcontractors—ensuring work is delivered on time and within budget.

Motor City Electric specializes in everything from basic electrical wiring to advanced Design/Build, communications, and renewable energy projects such as solar, wind, and battery storage systems. In the utility division, Eric supports projects for major clients like DTE, ITC, and Consumers Power, including battery energy storage systems (BESS) that help store clean energy and reduce reliance on coal.

Eric’s career path began in the building trades, where he managed residential construction projects and gained hands-on experience with field work. Over time, he transitioned into electrical utilities and renewable energy, working on projects like LED lighting upgrades in Detroit and underground utility installations. His college education, combined with on-the-job training as an assistant project manager, gave him the foundation to step into his current leadership role.

Passionate about the clean energy transition, Eric believes one of the biggest challenges is public understanding. “People see these large windmills, acres of solar fields and battery containers going up and don’t understand why they are there or what they are used for,” he says. “Education is key in getting the public to understand why this industry is a growing so fast and the benefits that it has on the environment.”
