Mike Mannion

As Owner and Director of Operations at Sun Vault Roofing, Mike is helping Wisconsin homeowners see their roofs in a new light — as both protection and power. Day to day, he oversees projects from the first customer call to the final inspection, coordinating crews, navigating building codes, and solving the on-site challenges that come with roofing. He also researches new materials and technologies, ensuring Sun Vault stays at the forefront of solar roofing innovation.

Sun Vault specializes in solar shingles — fully-integrated solar roofing systems that combine durable asphalt roofing with solar technology in one seamless package without any bulky racks. For homeowners, that means no compromises on style, durability, or performance. By pairing reroofing with solar installation, Sun Vault helps customers lower costs, increase home value, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels — all while making solar more accessible in Wisconsin. Mike led Sun Vault Roofing to complete the state of Wisconsin’s first solar roofing project in September 2025. Thanks to his leadership, Sun Vault Roofing is on-track to add 52 kW of clean energy to the grid and avoid the drilling of over 1,000 holes in homeowner roofs.

A roofer for more than a decade, Mike co-founded Sun Vault Roofing in 2024 after serving as Director of Operations at a large roofing company. There, he helped launch sustainability programs such as asphalt shingle recycling, which contributed to Dane County making shingles the most-recycled material in the area. While Sun Vault is his first formal role in clean energy, it feels like a natural continuation of his career-long focus on building better, longer-lasting homes. Living in Beloit, where air quality is among the worst in the Midwest, also made the clean energy transition personal.

Most of his training has been hands-on — from growing up fixing things in his family to mastering roofing installation and project management in the field. To add solar expertise, he has pursued manufacturer training, mentorship, and self-study on electrical systems, inverters, and interconnection codes. Today, he combines that practical knowledge with his passion for sustainability to lead a company that is reimagining what a roof can do. By challenging misconceptions about cost and durability, he is showing that solar is not only for “green” households, but also for farmers, retirees, and families looking to save money and invest in their homes.
